Joe Happ
Joe Happ is
a solid newsman and photographer with nearly 40 years of experience at
major newspapers on both the East and West coasts.
Before
launching Northwest Media Consultants, Happ was editor and co-owner of
Oregon Coast Newspapers, LLC, with two newspapers in Tillamook and
Lincoln counties in Oregon. As such, he managed two editorial staffs
and personally covered local government, education and community issues
throughout Tillamook County. He helped develop an award-winning
editorial page and personally earned numerous awards for his writing
and photography from the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association and the Society of Professional Journalists.
Before coming to Oregon, he was executive editor of the San Bernardino Sun;
assistant to the publisher and managing editor of the Press-Enterprise,
a 175,000-circulation daily in Riverside, Calif.; news editor of The
Washington Times in Washington, D.C., and assistant news editor of The
San Diego Union.
Early in
his career, he worked as an editor for The Philadelphia Bulletin and as a reporter for the Courier
Post in Cherry Hill, N.J. He also served as a photographer, journalist
and broadcaster for the U.S. Navy in California and Naples, Italy.
Happ
studied journalism at Temple University School of Journalism in
Philadelphia and was trained in photography at the U.S. Naval
Photographic School in Pensacola, Fla.
He is a
member of the board of directors of the United Way of Tillamook County
and works closely with the Tillamook County Education Foundation in its
annual Mayors’ Ball fund raising event.
