Joe Happ

Joe Happ is a solid newsman and photographer with nearly 40 years of experience at major newspapers on both the East and West coasts.

Before launching Northwest Media Consultants, Happ was editor and co-owner of Oregon Coast Newspapers, LLC, with two newspapers in Tillamook and Lincoln counties in Oregon. As such, he managed two editorial staffs and personally covered local government, education and community issues throughout Tillamook County. He helped develop an award-winning editorial page and personally earned numerous awards for his writing and photography from the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association and the Society of Professional Journalists.

Before coming to Oregon, he was executive editor of the San Bernardino Sun; assistant to the publisher and managing editor of the Press-Enterprise, a 175,000-circulation daily in Riverside, Calif.; news editor of The Washington Times in Washington, D.C., and assistant news editor of The San Diego Union.

Early in his career, he worked as an editor for The Philadelphia Bulletin and as a reporter for the Courier Post in Cherry Hill, N.J. He also served as a photographer, journalist and broadcaster for the U.S. Navy in California and Naples, Italy.

Happ studied journalism at Temple University School of Journalism in Philadelphia and was trained in photography at the U.S. Naval Photographic School in Pensacola, Fla.

He is a member of the board of directors of the United Way of Tillamook County and works closely with the Tillamook County Education Foundation in its annual Mayors’ Ball fund raising event.
